My Penrite kit was a free prize thankfully.
But holy shit looking at the prices it's not cheap.

Let me know if you want it mate. I can get 20L of the HPRD 15 for not far off the 20L RX price.

No it's not cheap, but if you keep an eye out it's usually possible to buy some on special somewhere. I just got the owner of the place we are staying at to pick me up 10 litres from Repco in Cairns for $76. Still expensive though. I wont need it for another 4500kms but I like to carry enough with us for an oil change otherwise it's too easy to find ourselves at the mercy of local prices, where if you can get it (in remote areas) can easily be $120 for 10 litres. I also like to carry it just in case I were ever to hole the sump and able to repair it.

The Donaldson kits are good value, especially with the blue air filters. But using the CAV pre-fuel filters I seem to slowly increase my stock of standard fuel filters, & there are only so many I can carry around the country. Hence just buying oil filters this time around.

    Noticed something interesting at Supercheap.
They have a 15 40 Penrite oil , apparently exclusive to them. Penrite lube guide never suggested this oil on their site . Instead it opted for the 15 50 variety.
Are they trying to upsell this HPR oil?

I could be wrong , but quick spec search well and truly meets TD needs with this Outback version. What gives ?

There is a difference & I think the 'made for Supercheap' product is lesser value, but it depends on your point of view . The 'Outback 4x4' product is a mineral oil, the HPR15 15w50 is semi synthetic. Personaly I'd rather pay just a few dollars more for the semi synthetic. I might feel differently if the 'Outback 4x4' product was more reasonably priced, on par with similar oils from other brands. I think this is a case of Supercheap trying to make some extra dollars without any real additional benefit to buyers.

Exactly Cuppa. Pricewise it's a no brainer really. And despite being mineral vs semi syn, the outback would still suit a TD I believe if it was the only oil you could get.

Just out of curiosity , do you use the Penrite engine flush prior to oil dumps ?
They gave me a bottle of it. I've never used a flush before. I tipped a tiny bit in.

FWIW Hodgey Mate, after many heavy albeit sluggishly slow work hauls interstate with the old Grandpa Spec Donk GQ TD42-Safari 8psi ute I’ve managed to tame oil consumption from 30L per 10,000km down to around a quarter/third of that. Old Gramps doesn’t overheat and has above factory compression ratios tested although somewhat recently started invisibly munching 15W-40 Valvoline SuperDiesel & Shell RimulaX R4.
Changed to Penrite Mineral 20W-60 and so far have saved a fortune with that thick honey old school goo which is closer to TD42 Nissan original specifications of 20W-50 from stock I believe?

FWIW-2 Hodgey Mate, have had two seperate discussions with TD42Ti 150rwkw 12mm Pump/Borg Warner Legends and on our recent gnarly mountain adventure they both used 1.0-1.5L of 15W-40 versus old Grandpa’s 55rwkw 600-700ml of 20W-60.

FWIW-3 Hodgey Mate, Please don’t take my newfound love of Mineral 20W-60 as gospel, hopefully it isn’t destroying my engine but it’s due for a rebuild oneday in the future but for now this goo appears to be a good Bandaid (Plaster Strip )

Informative as always Mr. @MB .

That's a fair whack of lube she's been burning through ?? Thus far (knock on my empty melon ) , my one hasn't lost a drip between services. She's only 160k yung though.

So far the Tee Dee is smooth and dandy with a free drop of penrites Aussie own 15 50 , and purring along nicely.
Hope to maybe be a convert from here on in, like @Cuppa .

I used to sell penrite oil when I worked and lived at Paraburdoo in the mines and used 10/50 mineral in everything, I also sold some to a bloke who had an oldv8 fairlane and it used 8 Ltd’s of oil from Perth to para , return trip he used nothing and was so pleased he rang me from Perth.
    2003 gu3 td42tdi sold 😞 bloody gvm towing crap. Bt50 3500kg gvm.
