Td42ti wheel in between harmonic balancer and air con pulley

Hi all, would anyone know what the little wheel in between the harmonic balancer and aircon pulley is for on a td42?

I've just changed my alternator belt and noticed the back of the belt is touching this wheel causing wear on the back of the belt. I've worked out the more I adjust the alternator belt tension the more the belt rubs on the wheel. Adjusting the alternator belt tension slightly changes the angle of the belt causing it to rub more. I've tried using 1140 and 1145 size belts with same issue.

I dont know what it's there for, thinking about removing it lol.
Not sure how to add pics in this post.

    Cheers

It’s a back idler pulley. It’s supposed to push against the back of the belt. What’s more important that the pulley is spinning free. If it locks up it will burn the belt.
