    Fuel gauge sender problem

I have a 2003 GU ZD30 Patrol and my main tank fuel gauge reads 1/2 full when empty. I removed the Main tank fuel gauge sender unit and checked the float position manually and it will not read Empty when at bottom of float travel, it reads Full when at top of travel. Has anyone had a similar problem and how do you fix it.

I suspect the resistive wire is broken somewhere near the halfway point, or the metal finger is losing contact. If it is the latter, then you might be able to adjust it to make a good contact as it slides. If the wire is broken, then you need to get a new sender unit.
