Oil Filter Removal without Oil change

Hi,

I did an oil and filter change last week only to find out that the oil filter spigot that holds the filter in the housing was missing. Since I needed the car, I carried on. I managed to find a spigot this week and I am wondering if I can remove the filter to fit it without dropping the oil? My guess is yes but I haven't time to take a good look and was wondering if somebody on the forum would know? Cheers!
