    Newbie but an oldie

    Hi,
Presently drive a '98 GU auto 4.5 petrol ST. Converted to LPG in '98.
Fitted lock up switch on torque converter, after towing caravan south on WA coast (head winds caused frequent disengaging and mild overheating of gearbox)
Fitted ultrasonic tweeters (activated by high beam) to ward off animals on highway, after bowling over an emu near Broken Hill.
Fitted reversing camera, BEFORE I backed into anything.

Previously owned (as well as many sedans); '78 short wheel base land cruiser, '80 Subaru Outback; '84 Mitsubishi Pajero short wheel base.
All of them enjoyable cars, but I love my '98 Patrol, even though as an advanced septuagenarian I don't venture far off road these days; it is great for carting big stuff from hardware store etc.

Joined because I especially want to peruse electrical manuals to better understand what happening under dash.
I had a recent "problem" with indicators which was solved by info posted on mypatrol4x4.com. Posted info there at https://www.mypatrol4x4.com/topic/15...-nissan-fault/

Happy 4Wdriving to all. Enjoy it while you can.

    G'day and welcome, BigRed1

I am just about to get a conv' lock-up kit fitted to my 2004 GU 4.8L petrol because I was getting sick and tired of the dis-engaging-n-engaging just as you start to go up small but long inclines and it wasn't until just recently on a trip the veh' dropped into "limp-mode".
I couldn't work out what was happening but I figured it could have been a heat related event. So I will be putting a kit in.
My question is does improve in the towing situation, eg; jumping from 5th to 4th and to 3rd in some cases?
Also, did you have to install a larger capacity trans' oil cooler unit?
I have been towing my van since 2105 and after 4yrs or so I thought about putting a bigger motor in but then it wa suggested to me that i may only need the conv lockup kit

Would be keen to hear of your experiences. taa!, Wattie
