    I have seen a video of this method going wrong. The tyre flew out sideways! looked damn dodgy! but it was on mud and the tyre was pumped up more.

    Also seen a video on a crest of a sand ridge to stop pulling recovered vehicle through the ridge.
    Good trick to remember.

    Saw it demonstrated by the late Malcolm Douglas in one of his TV shows - generated the right angles at the right time.
