poor brakes

Hi guys,my 2016 patrol with abs does not stop well,would softer pads make any difference,thanks all.

G’day Poopsie Mate!
I believe on much earlier model Patrols without ABS blokes do upgrade brake lines to heavier ‘braided lines’ reducing swelling pressure of OEM rubber lines.
Many too have upgraded to an array of larger discs/callipers and higher performance pads which all appear to have had good success read.
My only nuffy suggestion would be to seek a very reputable brake specialist before jumping to any forum upgrades out in the Stratosphere.
A Legend on here may well know your answer, it’s just the McTechnological advances of 2016 ABS electrical stuff behind the scenes that would worry old nuffy me

For the record, yes pads can make a massive difference, my GU did not stop well if i had anything other than the Genuine Nissan pads, the brand name aftermarket high metal content pads designed for 4x4s were just horrible.

I agree here. I used OEM Pads when I did the TB48 brake conversion. Now I've worn them out I went to Bendix 4wd pads and they are horrible. Still stops better than it did with the standard ZD brakes though. Braided lines are a good upgrade aswell in my opinion.

Have a search on the forum for RDA Dimpled and Slotted Rotors and EBC brake pads.
Cuppa got me onto them, made a big difference to his setup and I had similar results with mine. Especially noticeable when towing.
Happy to recommend them, not the cheapest but way better than the OEM setup for sure.

Yep when I first put them on I imagined I'd also end up putting on braided lines, but now 3 or 4 years down the track I still haven't felt the need. I replaced the 6000 series 'Greenstuff' EBC pads (more than one type of Greenstuff) with the more heat resistant 'Yellowstuff' EBC pads (which is what Jack has too). TBH the Yellowstuff & Greenstuff feel much the same, but since fitting them I haven't taken them on any steep long descents with the Tvan on. Replaced the first set of Greenstuff at around 60,000km. Could have squeezed another couple of thousand out of them, but better to change them before heading remote. Some pads/disc combos might get better pad life, but I doubt they'd stop the Patrol as well. EBC say to machine the rotors when fitting new pads. No machine suitable for slotted dimpled at the location when I got them fitted, no scoring whatsoever on the discs (quite amazing considering where we had been) & the workshop just gave the discs a light clean with wire wool/fine emery. All good, have put about another 10,000km on them since then. I only have discs on the front axle, drums on the rear & run an all up weight (including Tvan) of around 5 tonne.
