    Cummins engine convertion

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get a Cummins engine conversion? and if anyone has had one done, was it worth it?

I see a guy near my work just about weekly with a GU 6BT conversion. I'm only going to mention what he says about it.
    Does he love it? Yes.
Would he do it again? No f'in way in hell is words in quote.

The amount of $ and hassles he has had to get the car on the road is beyond ridiculous and in his opinion not worth the nightmare. The modifications needed are crazy. You need to severely modify the rocker cover/top of the motor so the bonnet shuts. The sump pan needs to be built from scratch to shape around the patrols steering / suspension components. And then the engineering nightmare with the weight of the motor, which is 500kg-ish dry weight from memory. And there was other numerous things he has mentioned I cant remember right now. I think also the radiator clearance is bees dick...
I know next to nothing about these motors, so this is just coming from 1 bloke that i'm aware of thats had the conversion.

I believe Patrolapart in Lilydale own a cummins converted ute?? I think. Might pay to give them a buzz and have a chat?

I think the 6bt is probably to heavy, I should have stated in my original post, I was thinking about the 4.5L common rail motor.

A customer of mine has spent the last year doing his. Finished he loves it. Balls to the wall he says. Towing a 3.5t trailer and it barely breaks a sweat. 1000nm of torque he says he’s seeing. His dad has an LS Patrol and brother has a 200rwkw TD and both cannot keep up even when he’s towing. But. He does say there is no way he will now do any serious off roading in it now. Whilst he has done everything possible to make it right by the engineers book. He reckons its too front end heavy and not as balanced as it used to be. But the endless power on tap he does love. This guy is good with his hands and said it wasn’t too bad doing the conversion, but some things just come natural to one and not to others.

6BT mate. Fark it moves. He dropped in today. We have construction works going on next to us and theres all these cashed up workers in there pimped up Gutluxes and Rangers with every accessory on them. They were all out the front when my customer leaves, you would have thought it was a 1/4 mile drag strip when he took off. The jaws on these workers hit the ground so hard. Priceless.

Keen to learn more about how to front axle legal load a decent steel bar & winch on a ripper beast of a 6BT conversion
