My son just moved 2nd battery from under bonnet to under tray on his 2005 Tdi as the heat kept cooking battery.
I have had mine under tray from almost new and no problems.
Also, future types of batteries coming on the market may not like heat as well.
At the end of the day, all you have is yourself and all you need is your friends (and in our case our Patrol)
2006 GUI1 4.2TDi Coil Cab "almost" standard
ARB GU second battery tray on my shed queen ute can’t complain
Running possibly the hottest engine variant in any Patrol (6.5 Chev) and my Optima yellow tops have performed same same tops as previous play TD42 kettle utes :-)
Expensive but never appear to fail across many including twin yellows in the old family GU touring truckster
Fast to recharge is Key
X2 ARB with @MB aux tray(old family GU touring truckster), be same me (adjacent to CRD Alternator). Handles many corrugations, our home road is full with them, does the job well (180,000 ks since new) and only ever used sealed FLA no overheat issues(3rd battery in 12 yrs). Also prefer to run electric winch off aux battery, so best to keep cable runs to a minimum to reduce voltage drop (just depends what you want)..Would stay clear of batteries that do not cope with heat anyway.
Many places to put CC, only imagination required and think of future mods track as said previously. Even had it under air intake duct @ airbox to turbo with Jonny Tig 600x300x76mm TM cooler fitted (1st image)_have the bracket if any one wants it.
CC now adjacent to turbo with current install of 9" pod type airbox with PDI FM cooler installed (2nd image).
