I've mounted a reverse camera but I need some additional light for reversing up to the boat on those pre-dawn outings (currently I get a torch with a magnet out of the shed and attach it to the factory tow hook below the doors). I've just seen these lights which are reasonably priced and look small enough that I think I might be able to mount them in the factory rear bumper. Has anybody done this? My main concern is that the plastic might not be strong enough but I think if I put in some kind of metal backing then it will probably be OK.
Need to be a little careful with 'reversing' lights. I believe they may need to NOT be activated by selecting reverse and NOT from the drivers seat depending on what they are, where they are, and where you are. ADRs and state laws may apply.
I run a pair of these 27w leds, cost bugger all and provide plenty of light. They are wired into the Patrols reverse light so only come on in reverse. Works for me.
These only draw half an amp and I measured it up today.....I am looking at removing the factory "recovery point" from under the rear doors, putting in 4 x grub screws to cover the holes, and then fitting two of these lights one above the other and wire them directly to my standard reverse light:
I was thinking of putting a couple of the flush mount versions into the rear bumper bar but I think these surface mount ones will be easier (and cheaper!!)
I have a frame that goes around the rear window for work lights. (first photo)
I have an awesome led mounted under my jerry can box which is on the reverse light trigger. (second photo)
The second photo also has my first go at a rear light bracket, the first photo has the second style of light frame.
