    Hello! American Expat in Serbia...

I am a terrible car guy. I've been into BMWs, had a couple Ms in the states, did some crapcan and AER racing, and owned-

    -Isuzu Rodeo
    -Ford Bronco, big motor automatic
-Ford Bronco, little windsor but 5 speed
-Chevy Tahoe, just light overland and towing
-Land Rover Disco 4/LR4 with the big V8

NOW, I live in Serbia... sold all my US vehicles.

I love stick shifts ad diesels available in europe.

I now have a BMW 320d manual xdrive wagon, a Lada Niva that I LOVE. Its like a little mountain goat, but it is small for long treks.

Soooooo... I found a 1990 Nissan Patrol with the little 2.8l TD, which is better for taxes here. I am trying to determine if it is a good buy.

Love car forums, so I look forward to poking around, and I promise I will use the SEARCH feature....

    Ok, on the Nissan Patrol.

2.8l TD I6 Nissan Patrol GQ Y60, manual

Has bull bar, leds, winch, roof rack, ladder, big Chinese Comforser tires. One of the 4x4s I looked at on the road yesterday. Needs bushings, suspension repair. Motor is strong no smoke, turbo is solid, no leaks. Interior needs minor restoration.

Worried about the rust. Surface rust doesn't bother me. Seat mounts may indicate worse under the carpet. That bracket though looks bad. APPRECIATE ANY THOUGHTS!

Here is the ad, they are asking 5,900 euro, I think that's high. Anyway, any thoughts y'all might have would be awesome.

Welcome to the forum. The RD28 is a reliable engine, but it has a few quirks. http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...hings-to-check

That crack on the chassis is a big problem and needs to be repaired. Also check that the spring tower hasn't stretched upwards or cracked the chassis welds. They are a known weak point and there are kits available to rectify or prevent it.

Carefully check the roof gutters for rust and the panel near the battery tray for cracks as well.

I had a Lada as a bush bomb. Rough as guts but unstoppable, until it wanted to catch fire...

I have heard that driving a Niva is like having sex with a pig - its fun until you get caught. My brother had one, like a damn tank, went everywhere as long as its wheels were pointing down - when they point up, its over, and thats what happened to his, but he likes pigs and Lada Niva's!

Also, I had found your buyers guide when I first got on here. Thank you for that!

Sorry to be a pain, but I had really wanted access to the service guide to help in my buying hunt.

Any idea who or how to get that PDF unlocked?

    Best,

    E
