    Rydal NSW 4WD Area

Sorry if this pace has been posted before, did a search and couldn't find any mention to Rydal 4WD Area!

Just south of Lithgow, is the 'Lake Lyell State Water Park' and just West of it along the Coxs River arm, is the Rydal 4WD Area, well know by most Sydney and District Keen 4WD'ers, the Rydal 4WD Area is located just 5min out of Rydal NSW along Sydney Road. Here you'll find Old Western Rd, follow Old Western Rd towards the Coxs River arm of Lake Lyell, and the fun starts.

I have know of this area since the early 2000's, having spent a week with the RAAF doing My 4WD Training Course out here, but hadn't been back until about 5 years ago with my D22 for a couple of hours fun by myself.

The area also has a range of activities to keep a family active for a couple of days during summer weekends and holiday, with Camping available at the Lake Lyell State Water Park Grounds, catering for those interested in fishing, kayaking and other water sorts activities, and during summer the Park has a Air Inflatable Water Activities System, and for those keen 4WD'ers, the Park is only 10min from the Rydal 4WD area, which has a range of easy 4wd tracks to suite the newbies to 4WD'ing and tracks to suit the more skilled 4WD'ers wanting to test their Skills and 4WD Vehicles.

This was was my 2nd trip out to Rydal in the past 2 months, first was a half day trip by myself just testing out and getting to know My Patrol Capabilities, today as My Son Ryan turned 22 last week, and we both are on holidays atm, I thought what a good opportunity for some Father & Son time, so what better then a day out 4WDing, this was also Ryan's first real time behind the wheel on decent 4WD tracks, having only driven Fire Trails while on his 'L' a couple years ago.

He got his first exposure to a up hill winch assist, and the safety that goes around winching. I think Ryan enjoyed his couple hours behind the wheel, and with another couple of hours every couple months improving his driving skills out here, will have the basic skills and key knowledge to start him on his way in being confident with his 4WD skills . . . and hopefully he will chooses to go down the path of buying his own 4WD down the track . . . rather then asking if he can take my Patrol out . . .
