    Angry Nissan Patrol 2010 STGU7

My partner and I are two women with very little knowledge of cars, we purchased a Nissan Patrol second hand, it had done a few klm but we were told diesel engines can do quite allot. Regardless we took into our mechanics to have the brakes done, and also a all over check before
we took on a run. They charged 1300 for everything and told us it was a great car nothing they could find wrong.

We did a couple hundred klms on freeway and started to hear a strange noise from the engine, like grating noise metal on metal. It didn't
slow the car and didn't seem to be any problem. it was present every time we started the car and then went away and then came back.

We drove home and left car over night, the next morning, it was turning over but would not start. eventually it felt like we were going to flatten the battery if we continued to try to try to start. Called RACV they said they didn't know, but it wasn't the start motor or belts, so we had towed to the mechanic.

The mechanic has had it two days and has no idea what it is, so they are going to take apart the fuel injectors or pistons and this wil be pricey but they said they didnt know where to start. We are feeling completely useless as we have no idea if the mechanic is just not very aware
of patrols ( he was our mini specialist as we had a mini before) or he is pissing in our pocket.

Does anyone feel they know what this could be please or know a good Patrol mechanic in Geelong Victoria

    thanks so much in advance

    Na¥

Since no one has replied I’d say it may be due to lack of info to help diagnose, i there any more that can be said about it?
Like has the hows the fuel system? Test the usual things to fail pressure relief valve.
The grating noise while driving a cant say I’ve heard of but long crank no start could be pressure relieve valve on the common rail..

Edit: non genuine fuel relief valve is about $90, genuine is about $215.

That's a lot to pay for nothing wrong.

I wonder if the grating sound could have a bit of debris caught behind a brake disc protector? That is a common occurrence with our work vehicles.
