new member gq 6.2 chev dash battles

Hi from the NSW mid north coast not sure how to navigate this site but here goes. Currently hit a wall trying to iron out a few issues with my dash as the previous owner had done a chev conversion from a petrol patrol and hasn't sorted things out, the old petro tacho has never been connected and the speedo goes heywire more often than not so ive bought a diesel cluster in an effort to sort it out. problem is the diesel model speedo works but not smoothly or accurately i do not know if there is compatibility issues between the year of manufacture of the model ie 91 GQ any info greatly appreciated

Hey mate as far as I know the GQ speedos should be compatible. The speedo units do have a habit of playing up when they get older but seeing as both are doing it it could possibly be the sender unit in the gearbox. If you've got anybody you know with a GQ could swap out and test it. .

OK, I have a 6.5/Optimiser conversion in my 1997 GQ. The tacho pick up is off a sensor running off the crank - check the wiring is not damaged. Its located on the passenger side of the motor. The tachos should fit universally - mine is fitted with a 3.0 petrol after the factory tacho blew up when the conversion was being completed, was a 2.8TD.
