Patrol 260 Glow Plug Timer/Module Part Number?

    Hello,

I have a Patrol 260 with the SD33 engine I bought online and had shipped from Spain to the US. The car has had issues starting, particularly with cold or cool weather. The second mechanic I brought it to thought it was the glow plugs, replaced them ($620usd for all six glow plugs which seemed high), and that did not resolve the issue. I'm on my third mechanic now and he said the car is missing the glow plug module/timer. We are trying to locate the part, but it's been difficult without the part number.

Does anyone out there have the part number, or have any suggestions on how to locate the part?

    Thanks,
    John

I think(and I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) but you could use any glow plug relay designed for that purpose and that is rated for the load.

As far as I understand the relay itself in the older systems controlled the duration of the glow.

Hopefully someone will be able to drum up the original part number for you but otherwise that's the avenue I'd start looking down.

Have you checked to see if they get power yourself? Multimeter or test light on the rail on key on will tell you.

Put your VIN in and search your own vehicle. You can even buy from them.

Thanks for the responses. I tried that website, but no luck. I got no results with my VIN. I tried navigating by make and model, but no luck there either. It has parts for most Patrol models, but there's nothing there for the 260.

I haven't checked to see if the glow plugs get power myself, the car has been with a mechanic for a while now. However, I'm told it's not getting power.

I'm wondering if I can use a timer from a 160, both models used the SD33 engine. It's much easier to locate parts for the 160.

If anyone has thoughts or suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks

I had a 260 Shortie 20 years ago. I'm sure it had a factory timer.

I'm pretty sure it's located in the passenger side kick panel and the relays under a panel beside the driver's side battery. I done away with my glow plug timer. now I regulate the time myself with the key by holding it between on and start. I hold the key just before start where the glow light comes on then hold it there for 5-7 seconds then to start, that has worked a treat with the last 3 MQ patrols and also allows you to glow for longer if needed for those extra cold morning

    Hey mudski

Good link for vin numbers, it's the closest one i found so far, most of the sites i have tried don't even find anything (not even the vin number), this one has mine as a Safari ? and some other odd ball numbers but the best match i found, thank you.
