Engine metallic squealing TB42E
G'day, I am getting a metallic squealing sound in a TB42E. I have eliminated the pulleys, alternator, water pump, power steering pump and air-conditioning compressor. Any idea other than the main engine bearing? Oil is nice and clean still.

Been thinking it through and I am now leaning toward the thrust bearing/spigot bearing at the clutch end. Any thoughts?

Yeah thats a weird sound. Does the noise change if you put the clutch in? If it does then i would say the thrust bearing for sure.

That thrust bearing wears out because people leave their foot on the clutch, for example, while waiting for lights to change. It is a hard habit to break.

Interesting, when I was doing driver training for my HR license recently I was advised that when waiting for a roundabout I had to keep it in gear which means keeping the foot on the clutch. The young ones nowadays are all trained like that as well. Clutch had ~300K on it including a lot of heavy towing so it had a good life.
