    Gq brakes just not happy with them

    I have done the following to my Gq, put Gu complete front and rear diff assembles underneath with braided lines, new Bendix brake pads, Gu booster and master cylander and I am still not happy the way it pulls up and yes I have a lot of weight to pull up and still more needs to put more on it, I am considering an electric brake booster to to off set the the vuccum booster so more vuccum more power for braking has any one done this and any brand suggestions?

    Hey mate have you considered a hydraulic booster running off the power steering pump they look pretty good from what I've seen. I also went genuine pads from Bendix and found they stop better.

    I think you will throw good money after bad chasing the vacuum route as there are limits to how much vacuum you can pull and the differential between what the nissan pump is delivering and what an electric pump will pull are very small. What @Rossco says the hydraboost setup is the way to go as you double the braking force minimum. I am going this path once I get my beast back on the road. I have not gone the GU route, more the EFI twin pad calipers, larger disks, upgraded softer pads, braided lines. the braid made the biggest difference to be honest and I am sure got me thru the brake test when going thru engineering. Yes, my barge is heavy also.

    What GU are the diffs and brakes from? This matters. A GU with the RD28 is different to the ZD30/ TD42 which is again different to the TB48's. I upgraded my GU to the TB48 master cylinder (bigger piston bore diameter), TB48 calipers, again bigger piston bore diameter, and rotors and pads to suit. Also running full braided lines. When I had my Patrol engineered, the engineer commented on how good my Patrol stops. One draw back. It can be pretty hairy in the wet. But they work well.

    You need to remember, your Patrol is heavy, it will never stop like a car does.

    I did the brake test with factory pads, 22 emerg stops 60 - 0 and 22 emerg stops 80 - 0, and they were stinking, and this was before I did the twin caliper upgrade, only difference was the braided lines. The pads I upgraded to, they were from Safebrake - used to be a vendor sponsor - honestly cannot recall, but they were for the TI calipers as well, so the pads had to be changed anyway. They also supplied the braided lines. Only thing I wasn't happy with the braided lines is they are supplied with a spiral wire cage on the outside of the line, and this catches sticks and stones and crap, and one ended up get mangled up. I dont know why they add it, but they are a ss braided hose with teflon inner. The factory pads were the original units from July 1997 - yeah, vehicle is very low klm - just over 100,000klm. for July 1997 build. I would have stayed with the factory pads except the 'guff' suggested these pads were stickier - I wasn't using as a daily driver so pad life wasn't an issue. These ones work well.

    The diffs are from a TD42 Ute, and that is all so why I want the Gu set up apparently bigger booster and master

    Are the TB48 bolt on or did you have to modify something ?

    Direct bolt on mate. Some places sell kits , for example patrolapart.
