Odometer reset
Hi all,
Anyone know how I can reset the digital odometer on the dash? I have a 12k old motor in a car that says 309,000 lol..
Can Nissan reset this? My local mechanic with one of those plug in computer thingos or do I have to go to a speedo/tacho specialist?
Cheers

I thought it was illegal to reset the odo, but I could be wrong.
Could be worth asking Nissan though

Oh, it's illegal all right! But I thought you could get a stat deck and have it signed my the police, or maybe Nissan had some kind of authority to do it. I can ring Nissan and find out, just thought someone may have known or had experience with it.

I think it might have to be reset with the Nissan computer thingy. I thought maybe replacing the instrument cluster but I think the reading might be stored on the ECU

Thanks both for your comments.
I'll look into it as it's kind of annoying seeing the high mileage on the clock knowing the motor is fresh!

It will still be illegal and I doubt nissan would wind it back. Even though your motor only has 12000k on it the rest of your patrol has 300,000 on it. As suggested you will have to get someone to sign a statutory deceleration stating when the the new motor was put in and how many k's on it.

I'm with GU89 on this one. The odometer is a measure of VEHICLE milege, not specifically the engine.

Good points, both of you. I never really thought of the importance of that side of it. I guess I have a receipt wit the ODO km's on it so any potential buyer can work out how old the motor is.
Makes sense to leave it i think. Cheers

Mate mine have done 320ish & my motors only done 80ish.... I left mine alone in order to keep up to date & co-inside with its full service history.
If I was ever to sell it I would rather ppl know its genuine & see how its been looked after.
Cheers
