    diesel misfire

hi, just reading on the net about black smoke from a diesel engine. it said one cause could be a faulty or blocked EGR valve. I checked my patrol and found that my egr is in fact blocked off. should i unblock it or not??

There's a thread on here somewhere about smoke colours.. Very generally speaking black smoke isn't normally a concern unless you have some other issue along side it. Perhaps the previous owner turned up the fuel somewhat?

Leave the egr blocked.. Especially if you have the 3l.

Leave the EGR blocked. Black smoke means excessive/ unburnt fuel. Common in the TD's with bigger fuel pumps. Could also mean, poor timing on the fuel pump, poorly tuned motor, leaking intercooler/ pipe, the list goes on.
