Just finished the lap!
Hello,
my wife and me quit our jobs in Switzerland to travel around your lovely country. I have been reading a lot in this forum over the last month and thought it is time now to share some of my experiences.
We bought a 2001 GU Patrol with the ZD30 engine and the 4-speed auto. More details you will find in my signature.

Today we just finished our lap around Australia! After 40.000km of bitumen, gravel and a couple of 4WD tracks we are quite happy the car is still going and in good condition. Now it is time for a proper service and couple of checks (we changed engine oil and filter every 10.000km).
Some of our 4WD highlights (we are still 4WD beginners) with out stock GU Patrol: Finke River track in NT, Gibb River Road, Steep Point and Israelite Bay in WA, Port Lincoln NP and Arkaroola in SA, Fraser Island in QLD

WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

I was in Switzerland in June just past. A beautiful country you come from.
I suppose you are ready to turn around and go back the other way.
Looking forward to a report and pictures if it happens.

Thanks everyone. Trip is not over yet.
Plans are to leave the car with a friend in Sydney and come back regularly to do some more 4WDing... It is quite addictive to see all those awesome places, where you need a 4WD to get to
