Funny how Cooper get such a bad name seeing as they own Mickey Thompson and Dick Cepek...... I've had Mickey Thompson ATZson the Patrol and loved them. Currently running Dick Cepek Fun Country II's and again rate them. Both aggressive all terrains, great grip on wet roads and mud clears off them pretty quickly off road.... Both great on sand too.
Was put off the BFGs after my old KOs, found the compound too hard, chipped easy on rocks and were terrible on wet roads, absolutley hated them. I realise compound was changed etc for the KO2s but they just didn't interest me.

On the Paj I'm currently running Pirelli Scorpion ATRs which have been great on road and sand, these are definitely more road biased tyres though. Will be getting Bridgestone D697s fitted next week, so will be able to compare with what Cuppa mentioned about them.

I've had 3 sets of Coopers, loved every set. Got at least 60,000 out of them, not a single puncture. Did the VHC, Simpson, mud, beach and lots of tarmac.

Had 1 set of BFG muddies on the old Hilux, not a single issue.

Currently running out a set of Nitto Trail Grappler MTs. Done at least 30,000 on them, probably more. Just under half worn. Done Simpson, Madigan, Anne Beadell, Surveyor General's. VHC, mud and tarmac.

Only issue is they pull to the left, have never been able to get them to drive straight. Very very good tyres, damn strong but heavy.

When I got the Nittos, they were around $280 a corner. Coopers were around $420. Can't justify the expense with Coopers. BFGs were around low $300s from memory.

Nitto and Toyo come from the same factory, well that's what I've been told & are probably the same construction except for the tread.

There's a brand called Hercules. They use the carcasses from Coopers and put their own tread layer on top. The Cooper sidewalls are pretty strong. So with that combo you end up with a not too bad tyre. I've found though that the Hercules tread layer is softer than others, so it wears more quickly.

went to a tyre company owned by a bloke at my golf club to get a price on 5 x Mickey Thompson ATZ P3’s and he quoted me $350 per tyre fitted.

Over the moon as a quote I did online with Mickey Thompson came back at $425 per tyre (not fitted).

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

I'm with you Tip, BFG for the win. Wear better than a pro's money maker and perform off road with the best of 'em.
