4.2 non turbo diesel, Any major set backs ?

    Hi Legends,
One of ma mate is about to get into a NON turbo 4.2 diesel patrol in another market. He asked me suggestions on performance and reliability or re occurring issues nd other concerns with the non td mill. Some of you might know a lot about them. Is it recommended ?? Does it run the same tranny as we have in td42 ? Is the Non turbo 4.2 comparable to 3.0 l td (common rail) on performance.
    Hope it's not a Lemon !!

The 3.0L CRD and Di will leave the N/A TD42 in its dust. Even a factory spec TD42t they will. Having said that, well looked after TD's are super reliable.

As mudski suggested, don't worry about an na td42's performance.. Because there isn't any. It'll likely never let you down though.

Just bolt on a Denco (or similar) turbo and it will go well and long. Did that with my old Maverick and it went fairly rapidly

Depending on which non turbo 4.2 if it’s silver top from a gq patrol those motors are almost as good as the factory turbo gu motors for running turbos ect...the blacktop non turbo can still run a low power turbo setup....other then that there all pretty reliable the non turbo motors are jsut slow...

That really is impressive! Good to hear it's still running well.
What's also impressive is that car would have to have done over 811kms per week or 42,200kms per year since it was new
I did just over 5,600kms in mine in the last 12 months.
