    upgraded alternator?

    Hi,

New to the forum and patrols.
I had the alternator pulley shift on a trip last week and thought it would be a good chance to upgrade.
Has anyone done it and come up against any problems?
Was a few options, but i liked the look of this.

    Cheers

sorry, I meant the pulley has slid down the shaft.
Almost an inch gap now between the pulley and alternator case.
I had a rattling around that area and after the trip, belt started to squeal. Had a look and the belt was not aligned properly.
Thought it would be better to get it swapped out next service, before it damages anything.

Can’t you just tighten the nut that holds it on the shaft

The nut requires a specific spline tool and has been making a noise (shitty bearing, metal on metal).
checked this arvo and sounds rough at start up, missing, smoke when it never had before.

Might pay to slip the belt off and spin the alternator and feel if it has a collapsed bearing. Sounds like you shouldn’t be driving it.

Working away this week, definitely not driving it though.
Booking it in to the mechanics ASAP, just interested in if anyone has used the 110A Hitachi Alternator from Baxters before?

I recently fitted a Jaylec 125A alternator (part number 65-3124-1) to my 2004 GU III TD42.
I chose a slightly uprated one as I had installed a dual battery setup.
That's the first alternator I've fitted since owning the car for 15 months. The previous alternator that stopped working was the factory unit.

The ZD engine has several "Torx" fasteners of varying sizes so I would get a set of 3/8 drive Torx from Supercheap/Repco/Ebay etc

I would also clean the MAF which may well be the issue for your smoke etc and you will need a Torx bit and I.P.A./Contact/MAF cleaner et al so grab some of that as well
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Picked up the patrol this morning.
The old pulley had completely let go off the alternator shaft and wasn't generating any voltage at all. Hope it hasn't damaged my batteries too much.
