ZD30 Replaced IP , Pistons hitting valves ?

Help please, I am now raising my voice to my wife,,,, and she doesnt deserve that.
    Removed IP
    Didnt mark anything.
Forgot to lock scissor gear, but got it reset and the 6mm bolt in and firm.
OK so now I have C CC marks lined up, all looks good. [ this seems to now be at BDC ]
Installed IP Put 6mm screwdriver through gear and into IP at 12 oclock. Fitted sprocket onto IP gear, carefully fitted dowel into hole. secured 4 bolts.
I think now IP is timed to crankshaft ??
Turned camshafts until A AA and B BB are aligned
Holding chain with cam sproket two dots on two dark links , fit yellow link onto dimple mark on IP sproket. lot of giggling and minor crank movement.
OK C CC almost aligned , had to turn crank !/2 tooth to stop interfering with valves [ C CC marks were move 1/2 tooth down towards the grownd ]
Yellow link on dimple , two dark links on two dimples.
Removed lock bolt from scissor gear . Turn the engine about 1/2 turn and i feel piston hit valves.

When C CC marks line up No1 seems to be at BDC , This seems strange to me? If I turn the engine to TDC dimple for yellow link is not anywhere near 9oclock where all pictures seem to place it/
HONEY I TOLD YOU I JUST DONT FN KNOW
    Help please

Decided the only thing to do was remove gear cover and start from scratch.
    Thanks fireblade for first diag.
V BIG job and tricky, to remove gear cover it was neccessary to remove Wpump studs and make top of the cover move forwards until cover is at nearly 45 deg. to get it out.
Locked and removed scissor/ idler gear, retimed all gears.
Reassembled and big relief,,, it started.
    Yaay
Sorry for being such a grump HONEY, let me take you out for dinner. ....... what and wash the dishes, vacuum, and what?
