NEW auto gearbox, info required, where to buy, about how much?

    Hi Guys,

I got water in the transmission and transfercase as the breather hose came off somehow and did water crossings. It is a 2012 3.0l wagon.

If I was to look at purchasing brand new is there somewhere I look for a code to ensure the correct parts?

Is there a preferred supplier for new ones?

    About how much are they?

    Will I need a hoist?

Finally, it is not something I have done before, would you recommend diy?

    Thanks for any info.

About how much are they? Got no idea...

Will I need a hoist? No. but its bloody handy.

Finally, it is not something I have done before, would you recommend diy? Not if your going to do it alone. Depending on how experienced you are too.

    Thanks for any info.

Is there a preferred supplier for new ones? Wholesale Automatics, they might be able 2 tell you what gearbox you need over the phone just by year model or vin

About how much are they? Bloody expensive!!!! but when you weigh up rebuilding yourself.....well just go look at my rebuild thread posted further below. Ask Wholesale or whom ever you ring about getting an exchange box

Will I need a hoist? No, makes it easier yes, I got a metal plate made up that fitted the trolley jack which helped a lot

Finally, it is not something I have done before, would you recommend diy? Hell yes if you have the time 2 do it yourself and half half an idea on mechanics and tools

    Thanks for any info.

Going to read the post linked below and get an idea if it is something that I should take on.

Well that was helpful, I will definitely never, never, do a rebuild. HAHA!

Have to contemplate the jacking requirements. Looks like you fabricated a couple of plates and a stand. And then have a good think, do I really want to do this!

Kudos to you for tackling it and to your ol' man too (and his previously smick looking cement!)
