    Bought my old one back.

    Hey all,

Yesterday I bought my old td42 manual LWB GQ back after a few years of not owning patrols and 8 years or so since owning this one.
Unfortunately the rust has taken over the body of this girl so looking for a clean donor car to swap my healthy td42 into.
Has anybody swapped a td42 into an GQ with an auto tb42?
Will post up some pics of my car and hopefully the donor car soon.

Congratulations mate, must be sad though seeing the old girls body rust now.
Pretty sure @Rossco ‘s GQ LWB early days was a petrol and swapped for a TD42 many years back. Have a search for his most recent build thread as its now got a fresh new shell too, same old chassis/drivetrain still going strong I believe

Yep still going strong although need to drive it haven't stretched its legs for a little while. .

Mine was TB42 although manual so just swapped bellhousings and all good, not sure about the autos I assume cross member mounting points on the chassis are the same but worth checking. Could always swap cab too that's what i did as was full of rust, ended up giving the old banger a pretty big birthday freshen up. .

You are too modest mate and honestly one of the nicest trucks I’ve kindly had the pleasure of driving in our high country, albeit unfortunately only for 20 minutes. Beautifully new rust, sound & vibration proofed from the hard yakka ground up Legendary effort! Nearly as comfy as a GU :-) but so so much more nimble/capable up tracks with its minimalistic size able to choose more lines :-)

Always good to add new rust on a build @MB

Young blokes on other 4x4 forums apparently pay top dollar for that and .22 mud stickers as well, go figure :-)

Thanks for the advice all! Might just put my manual box in with the td42 but wanted to ask around about keeping it an auto also.

Many wish, only just a few TD42 autos OEM imported I believe have learnt here. Would fear myself a hydraulic torque convertor thingymebob to fark up out there in my nuffy opinion.
1st gear manual LR you’ll do say the old Telegraph Track in under 2 weeks comfortably, enjoys the views :-)
Wonders if Nissan too was worried about releasing them here back then officially hot?
