ZD30 Fuel Filter / Fuel Return

Hoping somebody has seen this before.

Just serviced the car on the weekend (ZD30 CRD).

After replacing the fuel filter, I had a major diesel leak out of the fuel return lines. Checked all connections, tightened and replaced hose clamps which didnt help.

The fuel filter return line has diesel flow if Iremove the line before the filter, but if i remove the line after the filter (off the fuel recirc valve) there is no flow.

I've tried another recirc valve, and have the same result.

Im a little confused as I have checked the valve, (as well as 2 others), and have found that the non-return valve restricts flow of diesel back to the tank, not the other way around as I would have suspected. My logic says then that this is whats causing the leak, but at the same time, how can it, as it has been working just fine until I replaced the filter.

    So, 2 questions:

    1)What have Idone wrong?

    2) Will Ido any harm by bypassing the recirc valve on the filter, and running the return line straight back to the fuel tank? As far as Iknow, the only reason the return line goes via the filter is to warm the fuel in cold weather to prevent clouding?

Recheck the fuel line connections, something is not where it should be.
