Buying my first ever Patrol, and I'm a little worried

Hi all, I'm buying my first Patrol and my first real 4WD. I know next to nothing about it apart from being 2003 GU III, 3L, 5 speed wagon. It apparently has a 2" lift kit in it. The thing that worries me the most is everyone telling me it'll blow, and 3L are grenades, it has 2 gauges fitted, I think one is boost, and I'm hoping the other is EGT.

I don't know if any preventative mods have been made, what do I need to look for in the way of mods?

What boost do they run standard?

What would be a good EGT temp range?

It will get a decent drive as I pick it up in Sydney and drive 5 hours west back home.

Have you sealed the deal yet? If you are worried about the engine, get it checked by a professional before you pay up. Have a good look at the rear spring towers as they tend to bend and crack because of the stresses of towing, especially on rough roads. There are kits available to strengthen them.

Type in NADS ( Nissan Anti- Detonation mods) in the search function and read the threads. There is plenty of info on here.

If it was going to blow, it's had 16 years to do so, maybe it never will.

Does it have a service history? Who was the previous owner, do you think they were someone who would have looked after the vehicle?

Mudnut raises some good things to look at as well. Maybe spend a few hours with Google, ask a few more questions, learn a bit more. Cars are easy to come by, money isn't.
