    Spit cooking

I've had this little spit for a while and wasn't too happy about losing so much heat. At home it was OK, set up in the garage but during camping and if it was a little windy it would takes way too long...

The only part of my job that I like. Making foreigners...

    2mm stainless steel.

mine is made from a 9 gal keg with the ends cut off pic to come
at camp it loses heat very quickly so the Auspit works better.
@Jaycee youll need to drill some holes in it so the fire will "draw"
My keg spit had a SS heat shield and a tray to hold the heat beads
at home at camp we just shovelled coals in it. never took it again
I have about 3 of these at home, great for toasted Sanwiches lol lol

Didnt notice yours has open ends will lose a heap of heat imo

    Spit cooking

    That’s awesome Jaysee mate!
Maybe an idea for the ends, make 2 x drop in square sheet plates that can double as fire shields over the coals for when carving time comes around?
EDIT: Square plates would need to be slotted of course to allow the rotisserie rod and or 4 x rectangle drop in plates maybe, leaving only a slight gap vertically ?

My BFF made one similar to yours fully enclosed but the heat beads kept
going out so we lite them again cracked a can and started drilling holes
still the fire stayed on. Once sorted it should cook great about 20 heat
beads for a small butt of beef or a rolled chicken from Lennards.
"Dont use kero infused heat beads" I also fit a temp gauge into the lid
The tray for the heat beads should be as long as the spit housing and up
off the base with holes in it, Ill take pics of all the components on mine to give
    you some ideas

Yeah, I thought of doing the holes John. Will give it a run first and see how it goes. Do like the idea of the temp gauge.

Mark. Guy at work wanted me to close off the sides with some removable sides so it could double up as an oven. Maybe later.

You’re all over it Jaysee Tucker Mate!
Agreed, probably don’t want to sweat a sweet rotisserie too much oven like contained.
Let’s be honest, at least in my world 50% of the family tucker taste probably does come from the preparation theatrics:-)
Cover it all up too much and what’s the family point? :-)
Simple senses critters we all are I believe
