Looking at buying a GQ, go ahead or?
G'day,
I'm new here and might be buying my first Patrol (well swapping my VY SS for one anyway!). I've been talking to a bloke about a 1991 N/A TD42 GQ with 334xxx kms, 3inch lift, 33s, dual battery, lightbars, UHF, awning, snorkel etc. He has priced it around 7.5 - 8K. He says it has "no rust at all" which is hard to find on a coastal GQ I've heard and no leaks, serviced 2000kms ago. I daily a little Lexus so I'm not looking to put a monstrous amount of kms on the Patrol so I'm not too worried about the somewhat high (compared to the usual cars I buy) kms. Now keep in mind I haven't gotten the chance to look through the vehicle in person yet but plan to midweek.
Basically I want a reliable diesel bus just for some beach work and the occasional road trip. Depending on how it goes it might even get a turbo, who knows.
As you're the experts, I'd love to hear what you have to say and what I should be wary of and keep an eye out for.
Cheers,
Shaun

I would not be concerned about the kms at all especially considering it is NA. Just check thoroughly around the gutters and rear window frames for rust as these are the first places it usually shows and if you have rust showing then it is much worse underneath.

Yep as above too. If it’s rust free and considering it’s a 91 is pretty low km’s is definitely worth checking out properly.

And if it is in decent condition then his valuation of it is very fair.
