The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

Fair dinkum gents. RACV Toral Care is a No Brainer. If you dont have it invest.
I blew my rear Diff. Its Easter. No hire cars available to get my family home. RACV paid their Branch $1000 to tow my camper and carry my family home. I will ride in the tow truck when it arrives.

Nah mate. I did not make it into camp. I noticed it was making a noised after strathmerton. Then went bang and it was over. Matty xame ans grabbed my camper. Nicko and i removed the tail shaft and we limped into Camp friday night. Set up and enjoyed the weekend. Dealing with it today.
Called around. Patrolapart wanted $450 change over for a 300,000km unit with a 90 day warranty.
360 Gearbox and Differentials in Bayswater are going to fully rebuild it with new bearings, crown wheel and pinion on Friday morning for $1100. I have to remove and refit.

Option 2 sounds much better mate. I can collect it if you can't get there during trade hours, I work just around the corner.
My car is at HT's, used about 6 litres on the way home, I feel most of it is through the surge tank. Harry will investigate and let me know. He's still not convinced it's the head though. Possible hose under pressure or poor connection to hose at barb sucking air under heat. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Totally agreed darren, money in the bank. Everyone hates paying insurance until the time comes along when you need it. Sorry to hear about the misfortune, but at least its a pretty straight forward repair
