    GU Clutch noise

    G'day everyone,

I have an issue with what I think is my clutch when towing the camper. When up shifting gears there is a whirring noise that comes from the gearbox when the clutch is fully depressed. Its not the shifting action thats making the noise. Any suggestions?? Thrust bearing?

From what you describe above Mentok mate it does sound like Thrust bearing to my nuffy understanding.
Run outside to your carport now and fire it up in neutral then see if it sounds the same every time you depress and release the clutch even when out of gear.

My TD42T rattles big time at idle in neutral. Depress the clutch the rattle disappears. Release the clutch it's rattle time again. Have been told this is a symptom of worn thrust bearing. Sounds opposite way around to Mentok's 3.0L clutch whirring noise?

What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal??

MB thats my thoughts too but the noise doesn't happen at idle only when driving with the camper on. My thoughts are that the thrust bearing is slowing down slightly during shifts and has some damage on it to make the noise.

    GU Clutch noise

Plasnart mate reminded on last post that one of our old work TD42T’s still does the same exactly. Has been doing it for 2-3years now so not sure what’s all our answers now sorry mate!
EDIT: A 5th gear old version box issue maybe or all gears Mentok mate?

@Mentok mate, are you 100% sure the noise aint coming from the Patrols arse end?
Just thinking you’re towing in 2WD highway hauling (unknown weight to us) maybe she’s dry and worn back there?

Doesn't sound like the noise is coming from the rear end and not sure what would make that type of noise in the rear end with the clutch in. The camper weighs approx 1500kgs.

That's the plan. Got a small trip coming up real soon (Easter/ANZAC break) and then a Gibb trip in June. Don't want any dramas while i'm away. Cheers for the help.
