Loud whining noise 4th 5th gear

Hey everyone has anyone Had a loud whining noise In 4th An 5th gear only under acceleration as soon as foots off it stops Have taken it to a couple 4x4 mechanics an some have said Diff some have said gearbox or tail shaft etc Just wanting to no if any of your have an idea on what it could be thank you An it’s a 2004 Gu patrol wagon zd30

Probably diff. The whining is probably present in lower gears but becomes more noticeable at higher speeds(ie 4th and 5th gear). My patrol was all but a dedicated tow vehicle before I got it and the rear diff has been a bit whiney since I picked it up at 190k kms.

I'm at 260k now and it's still going fine with general use. Needs to be done soon as the backlash is starting to get a bit much though.

Yeah had my thoughts on the diff but cause the noise sounds like it’s coming from the front didn’t think it would be but I got a another diff here low ks on it so il put that in an see how I go thanks mate
