Hi All,
Im Paul I live on the west coast of Cape York QLD.
I have a 1994 GQ RX4.2 Wagon with 402,000 original ks.
Engine has never been opened.(have logs from new)
Had the injector pump rebuilt about 2yrs ago and new glow plugs.
Regularly change filters and oil other than that the engine has not been touched.
However living up here the PDR is hell on vehicles of all types.
So have replaced just about everything underneath, but all good.
Just need to do paint and panel.
I also have a 1997 DX TD42 turbo ute. BUT that's another story.
So the reason Im here is to ask,
What would be the best way to go about putting a turbo on the old girl.
Im a bit concerned due to the ks on the clock.

Welcome to the forum. We did the PDR this year on the way to the Tip. The road was better than we expected but still rough in places, especially around Archer River. One of the cars with us cracked a mag and $1800 later he had a replacement! Your GQ looks like it won't have that problem. Now that the wet is on its way I suppose you won't be driving much?
does your motor blow any smoke - on startup, under load, etc..........
if it does, the Turbo with amplify that and annoy you
if it dont - fit a turbo & intercooler...............
if and when you fit turbo (and intercooler - I prefer top mount, they say they dont get as much cooling as a front mount - but - the TD42 NEEDS fresh air to keep cool - and a front mount blocks that air flow)
get it dyno'd and tuned at the same time
you will have a totally different beastie afterwards
Tidy Whitey - 99 GU TD42Ti - Diesel Gas, (GUIV Turbo & Intercooler 8Lb boost), 33" Micky T's Baja MTZ's, Dual Batt's, Cargo Barrier, rear draws, HID Super Oscars, winch, Grinch & witch attached and more goodies to come
Hi,
Yeah the PDR is always bad from Archer to Musgrave.
We cracked the front diff in 4 places due to a dust hole and have replaced everything with heavy duty gear.
She is now set up for the PDR.
We drive just as much during the wet due to freight costs so its also setup for the mud.
31 10.5x 15 Archilles XMT tyres work well but changing to 33x 12.5 sometime this year.
She just needs a little more power now due to the age, but that's in the planning now.
Cheers
Hi Bill
The PDR is always crap from Archer to Musgrave.
We cracked the front diff in 4 places due to a dust hole so now everything underneath is heavy duty at a cost of $4200.
She is also setup for the mud as we do a lot of driving during the wet due to the cost of freight.
Only running 31 10.5 r15 Archilles XMT tyres but changing to 33 12.5 r15 soon.
Suspension is Ironman with a 2 inch lift.
Just need to give it a little more power that's in the planning now.
Cheers
