    Turbo Time!

    Hey guys
Hard out saving up for a turbo setup for the Q. I've decided to put my own kit together and fit it myself.
Just a few (a lot of) questions:

    Will my engine handle it?
I know the weaknesses of Blacktop non turbos, but the engine is only 183000kms young, so...
Also, I only want to run a max of 15PSI through the engine anyway. Will the standard pump handle this? What sort of power figures would I get out of this if I did?

    High mount or Low mount?
I've heard low mounts are much easier as you can use GU componentry for future upgrades etc.

    What size turbo?
I've been looking at TD05 18g 6cm, but recently noticed some people running Garrett ball bearing turbos. What is better for just a weekend play toy, that never tows or carries heavy loads? Are ball bearing setups better or less reliable as I have heard?

Mamba Turbos - Are they any good?
They look like good quality, and come with all the oil feed, oil drain lines and water lines.

Jrace Exhaust manifold - has any one used them and would recommend them?
They look awesome and you can get a standard GU replacement, so it makes it much easier. Is $490 a reasonable price for a manifold?

Purely oil cooled, or water cooled as well?
Purely oil cooled seems a lot easier to fit?

Weld the oil drain into the sump?
Is there any other way, cos I'm NOT a welder!

What pressure on standard fuel pump?
I don't want to upgrade the pump, but do you reckon it would handle 15PSI if I intercool it?

    W2A or A2A/Top mount/Front mount intercooler?
What is the most efficient, that is the easiest to fit?

    Piping size under bonnet?
I was thinking 3" the whole way as I am getting a Patroldocta 3.5" airbox and the inlet to most turbos and intercoolers is 3".

Would a GU exhaust kit fit onto my coil cab - all mounts lining up etc if I used the standard exhaust manifold?

Where to mount the EGT probe - pre or post turbo?

Any tips that would make DIY fitting easier?

Sorry to ask so many questions but look forward to some replies from you more experienced guys.

    Hey guys
I have gone ahead and ordered some of the bits for the turbo setup... I decided to go high mount with an Ebay manifold and kinugawa 16g 8cm oil cooled. Pretty excited right now. I have decided to leave the intercooler for now but plans are a water to air setup.
Just a question though...has anyone fitted a GU coil cab ute 3" exhaust to a GQ coil cab? Did you need to modify anything for it to fit?
    Cheers

EGT bung is normally on the elbow behind the turbo
most dump pipe may have it.
Id be fitting a ceramic coated one, its all about Thermal Dynamics and
keeping the heat on the inside where it belongs.
Must be heaps written on this.
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

Hey guys before I start extracting more ponies out of my TD, have I got the strong or weak motor? It has a black rocker cover but the vac pump is run off the alternator. It is a 1994 coil cab...
    Cheers
