Buying a GU Patrol, maybe ??
Hi, i am new to this forum and this is my 1st post. I am thinking about buying a 1998 Auto 4.5 petrol GU wagon, it has only done 168,000km's and is in great shape inside and out. I do have a couple of questions though. Q1- The Gu drives perfectly other than a slight vibration when you 1st take of, it is only slight but it is noticable and dissapears as soon as you take off. I don't know if it is comming from the drive train or tranny or whether it is normal with these models. Q2- If i decide to change to gas is it worth paying the extra for SVI or just stick with the old system ?? Q3- It comes with Engel fridge, bull bar, camping drawers, twin batteries, roof rack and side awning. Is it worth $14,000 ?? Any advice welcome, thanks in advance.

RIP - valued member and true gentleman of this forum that will be missed by many!
don't have any experience with the GU, still wearing out my GQ. :-)
You might want to go onto the intro page and put up a bit of info about yourself - whatever you are comfortable with!
Welcome to the forum, and have fun.

Hi and welcome to Nissans Nut House Peter. If youstay a member I 'll get a mod to place this up as your intro. And GU lovers will be able to answer your price question soon. Has plenty of goods though. Dollars are saved just there.

Welcome to the forum Peter.
Ans.1- The vibration could be caused by a number of things, worn universal joints, worn engine or gearbox mounts etc, if the vibration mainly occurs when accelerating just off straight ahead it may just be the limited slip diff needs a different oil. If the vehicle is fitted with a suspension lift it could be caused by incorrect driveline angles.
Ans.2- If you can afford the extra $$$ definatley get LPG injection (SVI, VSI). As a former gas fitter I have in the past fitted both types of systems to various vehicles, the vapour injection systems do not back fire and have less power drop on gas and no power drop on petrol(the earlier type LPG systems put a venturi in the air inlet which restricts air flow so even when you run on petrol there is a drop in power, vapour injection does not use a venturi). Fuel economy is also slightly better with SVI.
Ans.3- I have no idea what the red book value would be but I would think $11 or 12,000 would be closer to the mark for a 1998 model.
