How much fuel
Hi all,
I have a question with regard to the sub base tank in my 2011 Patrol, ST 3.0 litre turbo diesel.
When I last filled up the fuel pump read 31.78 litres
- I know the fuel tank is 30 litres
- The National Measurement Institute allows a tolerance of 3% at the pump
- If the fuel pump reads more than 30.9 litres the pump is not calibrated and you are paying more than what you should
However, what I don't know is how much fuel the the fuel line from the fill point to the 30 litre tank takes.
For instance, if it is 1 litre, which isn't a lot, then the 31.78 litres is within tolerance.
Does anybody have any information / opinion on this?
Thanks
Paul

Not sure mate but interesting question. Trying to remember what I've seen go into the aux tank but don't think I've ever seen 31L. Could be close though. Will take more attention next time.
What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal??

Are you filling up until the filler clicks, as in filler inserted all the way in like it should be or ??
31.78 sounds a bit much unless you are filling it up all the way level with filler cap lol. Personally I've never ever been able to fill high 29's.

I stop filling after the first click of the filler. I've got a Gregory's and found the location of the sub tank and the length of hose from the tank to the fill point. This way I can work out the volume of fuel in the sub tank and hose. Then if I keep filling, I'll have a pretty good idea how far out of tolerance it is.

A few days ago I got 33.24 litres into my Sub Tank on my GU3 as I had just installed a ARB Main tank to see how much total fuel possible. I also could see the fuel at the top of the pipe. I'm not sure if some did blow out, but it's not bad amount on an Aux.

I am he, fear me
The amount of fuel in litres that you will get on a fill will vary due to quite a few factors...
Is the vehicle level, temp of the fuel, flow rate of the pump, cutout pressure, dispenser nozzle position, fuel residual to name a few.
FWIW mine used to average around 32 litres from empty to 2nd click but anywhere from 30 ish to 33 I would consider normal.
