TB42 EFI Dual Fuel problem with petrol
G’Day friends
My injected TB42 has problems starting and idling on petrol. It was always starting easier on gas, the previous owner said it would be normal. But since a week I am experiencing heavier issues. To start it I need to crank really long and/or more than a couple of times until it fires. Very often it needs a few cycles to rev up to 900 rpm. After starting the idling rev is very low when the engine is cold. As soon as you turn on the aircon the engine starts to stall, it kind of fights to keep running until it dies after almost a minute. If you would prevent that by manually accelerating you might get one or another knock until the RPM needle passes the 1000rpm point.
Same way of dying when I go in D or R
Idling problem is gone when warmed up.
These Problems occur ONLY ON PETROL.
It starts and runs perfectly on LPG.
Information to the car: TB42 EFI with ~ 250k in a ~350k Body
Ignition wires and spark plugs 5000k old
Fuel filter 5000k old
Don’t know whAt other relevant information you need to help me, I will answer as soon as possible.
Your help will be very much appreciated!
Cheers Atilla

Hi there, I am currently experiencing a similar issue with my GQ. It has recently had the LPG isolated and has been running terribly. Cleaning the air flow meter with mass spray and fitting a pod filter helped for a bit but the idle was still pretty rough and often hovered between 200 and 400 rpm. It now turns over with strong spark but will not fire. Have replaced ignition coil with no success. Plugs, leads and distributor cap 6 months old, injectors replaced with reconditioned ones a few months ago and crank angle sensor replaced 4 weeks ago. Did you have any success with yours?

I am he, fear me
... have you adjusted the timing? I always retimed the spark if i was operating on Petrol for any length of time.
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Do you have a tank of stale fuel ?
"Can't" is a dirty 4 letter word.
Best way to deal with a "Can't" is to chop off the "t" and brew it in boiled water for a few minutes.
Sip on the "t", and consider what you've got left to work with

.........
FWIW: Our TB42 non elecy variant issue was stale fuel also as kindly mentioned above.
Turned to an orange juice glug and required full carby, pump, line and tank over haul.
I foolishly thought diluting the tank with 50% fresh 91 after 12months would’ve worked but obvious now my damage was already done in the lines. It may have had some 95 put in there at some stage prior we believe too that is apparently even worse for longevity?
