Welcome to the forum mate and feel free to ask any questions.
The TD42 is a pretty reliable engine for an all round purpose. Haters will talk about them overheating but if kept well maintained and radiator clean and in good condition with good airflow there shouldn't be any issues.

I've got a 4.2 TDi, ex Telstra ute with the pod on the back. I don't know much about what's under the bonnet and don't go off road much, but I love it.
It appears to travel better whilst towing a bit of weight behind, rather than empty. My 2 inch lift is about 2 years old.
I can go up many/most hills without having to change down, when empty.
Mine gets log book serviced religiously at 10k.
I turned mine into a tourer with lotsa, and I mean lotsa glamping fruit. lol.
Take care out there.
