Smokin Patrol
Gidday all,
My 98 Patrol (TD42) with aftermarket turbo, sometimes burns alot of oil at a cold start. Seems to only happen consistently on cold mornings.
Will be checking glow plugs, but I think it may have something to do with PCV.
Runs well apart from that, although seems a bit sluggish.
When it does burn oil, takes a minute or 2 to start running clean, and then runs well.
Any advice.

Valve stem seals I would think. When the motor is off oil is leaking past the seals and into the cylinder. The oil then is burnt away after start up. Or maybe the turbo is leaking oil. Remove air outlet pipe on the turbo when it normally blows the smoke and see if its full of oil.

G'day mate and welcome to the forum. I also think valve stem seals for what it worth.

Depends on what colour the smoke is for a Diesel, as to what it is.
Black Smoke is usually Overfuelling
White Smoke is Unburnt Fuel
Grey/Blue Smoke is Oil Burn
Are you losing oil on the dipstick, or are you just thinking that any smoke is oil burn
