2.8td head gasket replacement
Have to change the head gasket on a 2.8 TD that just crapped out. Any thing I need to be wary of, tricks etc or is it pretty straight forward. Have done on other cars before . Just checking first

Need to look for cracks in the head and check the decompression chambers. Our kid has one that did the head and it cost him $4k to fix inc new head

Patrol Guru
G'day Alan,
The head gaskets on these units are made of steel. Are you sure its the gasket?
With these engines being a cast block with an alloy head it is most likely the head itself that is gone.
When I bought mine I was told that it was just the head gasket and it wasn't. The head was warped from over heating. Replaced the head and all that goes with it and cost me just over 4K at the time.
Cheers,
Rob
