Am about to get a 6x3 gazebo for out bush camping and am scratching around whether top go for the Oztrail deluxe on special for $329 at SNOWYS or the Wanderer for $349 on special at BCF or the spinifex on special for $390from Anaconda.
I would appreciate any ideas /experiences you may have
Thumbs up for wanderer from me.
Ive had my 3x3 deluxe wanderer for ages now.
It's copped a lot of sun, rain , even hail when camping . I don't even use its bag when I take it away , just collapse it with canopy still attached and strap it on the roof rack.
It was setup in our backyard for pretty much all of January and it's still in perfect condition.
G’day Phillip, Mrs MB used to sell great home made equine products via cheap gazebos/stalls at local markets years ago and stopped because most weekend marketplaces now have minimum structural integrity tent requirements.
I thought it was all bullshit until camping on the Murray River when one of her gazebos dangerously took off on a lightly windy Easter Sunday years back.
Again this last Australia Day, same usually tranquil spot we all had a crazy mini cyclone crunch through and wiped out every campsite within say 10km.
Tarpaulins and single poles/ropes to fall down flat I believe safest and pack heaps better too :-) !
Pretty sure all SRG/SHG products were collected downstream at daybreak via the old faithful Savage/Mercury :-)
Oh, and a shipload of Aussie giant blow up thongs from the wankers up stream ;-)
Forgot to mention, great young Dinkum couple camped beside us that awful night showed great Aussie spirit by leaving their camp to check on all our kids. Poor bloke didn’t even realise that his efforts holding down his gazebo thingy had debarked by scissor action his left two finger tops :-(
Don't know about the Wanderer or Spinifex but we've had a 3x3 Oztrail Deluxe for a few years now and has stood up well in good winds. We tend to use this on short trips.
We've also got a Coleman Event 14 which we use on longer stays. Takes longer to put up but I reckon it's sturdier in the wind due to is shape.
I also use these to secure guy ropes etc, rather than the standard supplied pegs.... https://peggypeg.com.au/
Have been toying with the idea for ages now of getting a 4.5 x 3m gazebo instead of the 3x3 just for that extra bit of room
I will add to what MB said.
That was a scary event up there .
Family friends RTT got sliced and diced to bits up in Tocumwal that day and their kids are still scarred and don't want to hear of camping .
I'm unsure if any off the shelf gazebos , would survive such onslaught. Even with the you beaut pegs n' ropes .
I've never been caught up in serious wind/gusts.
But I'm confident the my wanderer would not have much chance in very strong winds no matter how much anchorage I use.
