Factory Rear Locker 2013 Y61 Fault Finding??

    My remediation work continues.

I have a factory fitted rear locker in the Patrol. It's vacuum operated.

When I activate the locker, the dashboard locker light just sits there flashing & flashing. I wait for a few minutes & it still flashes.

I noticed this morning that there are 2 what look like vacuum hoses that cross from passenger to driver side & go under the exhaust pipe at around the front seat area under the vehicle. Where they cross from side to side they have rubber hose. I noticed 1 hose was disconnected, just pulled off somehow.

I stuck this back on hoping this may fix the flashing problem but it didn't.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can go about fault finding this???

    Thanks.

Easiest way to test is get it in 4L. Now with it sitting in park switch the switch on
Go to the back of the diff and you will see the actuator hanging out the drivers side . 2 vacuum lines connect to this. Switch them round and hear if the diff lock is moving. If it is thats a good sign.

Replace them back the way you found them. Go into the engine bay and on the passenger side firewall you will see 2 vacuum solenoids. Pull them off one by one and see if they have vacuum. My bet is that one of them is stuffed or both like mine was.
Many of us with factory fitted diff locks have replaced the solenoid with a MAC valve. Search the forum and you will find many threads about them. They are about $160 from memory and work so much better and engaging the diff lock doesnt take as long as factory nor does unlocking.

    Is this the solenoid?

It has Hitachi AESE 128-18A 3719 written on it. I googled that but couldn't find anything.

I hopped under the rear and removed the vacuum hoses, one at a time, with the diff lock switched on & then off. I had a tiny amount of vacuum out of one hose with the diff lock switch on & off and none out of the other. The hose with vacuum is shown below.

Yep thats the solenoid. Technically its actually 2 there. One holds disengages and the other engages. The one that engages u
If your getting air out of one line and not the other i would say the vac solenoid is stuffed.

This is what i replaced it with.

You can even use the old bracket after bashing it a bit flat with a hammer.

On my 2007 3.0L ZD30 Di (non CRD) I have the same factory diff lock and also experience some problems.
Sometimes diff lock engages straight a way and then the next time the light keep flashing for ages.

I started measuring the vacuum directly at the rear axle

With diff swich off I measure a vacuum of 0,9 bar / 13 Psi on the lower hose
With diff lock on about the same vacuum on the top hose

Are above numbers OK or should the vacuum be higher?
