New tyres help

Didn't find a thread so I made this one
Part of our job is to visit local farmers
So we need to go off-road sometimes
Problem is my tyres can't endure the environment (last time I did 23 patches in just two days and two tyres were in unrepairable)
Stock tyre size 265/70R16
Environment is filled withy spicky bushes and dry hard stems (puncture resistance required)(no way around it)
Sometimes muddy
So what type and size of tyres should I get
And do I need to change my wheel size
Any help is appreciated

In Australian Southern rocky conditions I’ve relied on BF Goodrich Mud Terrain KM1’s & KM2’s for well over 10 years now.
The beautiful African environment you describe above sounds very tough my friend.
I have never used them but I believe there is a system that USA Baja desert racers and their rock crawling drivers use with a secondary inner tough tube thing. Others here will know what they’re called but possibly could work for your needs maybe?

Are they called internal beadlocks? There are good ones for most rim sizes on Snake Racing: http://shop.snakeracing.com.au/secon...-x-10-12-wide/
I think these just allow you to run lower pressures than you'd normally be able to. I've heard of people running their tyres at 4psi with these!

ya need a 10 ply side wall not 3ply..look for a lt-light truck
mate did heaps of driving through saltbush n stick out of kalgoolie..swore by 10 ply sidewall...hope that helps mate,

Absolutely agree...

LT tyres will be the go to greatly reduce the amount of punctures... and don't drop your pressures too much.
Certainly agree you don't want road pressures but only drop enough to keep traction and so the side wall doesn't become a traget.

Rough guide is if most (you won't stop them all but if most) of the punctures are in the side wall you need a higher pressure to get the tyre standing up more and 'squirming' less so the tread stays under the rim

Cheers Jack, I think that’s them mate. I guess my theory was to let those nasty described prickles pass through a tyre but not the tough inner one you helped on here, could work hopefully?

nah the internal Bead locks are designed specifically to hold the bead and are quite small. They will not stop teh tyre going down if it is puncture but will stop it popping a bead.


For my money i would look at something with big side wall lugs to protect from impact and puncture by thickness alone.

Choice number 1 would be Simex Jungle Trekker2. Great tough tyre. Military spec. Rain Forrest Challenge winner and just tough. They also come in smaller sizes so will work in a 33, 34" tyre if that i what your chasing. Will be great in the wet seasons too.

Choice 2 Wrangler MTR have a Kevlar reinforced side wall and a good quality but Dear as Poison.

Choice 3 would be Maxxis Treps. Tough big side walls but start in 35s and go up.
