Just crawled under Mrs MB’s 2001 can’t seem to find any drain bung on the 30L stock sub tank Jack mate, unless under the bash plate hidden away! As AVO kindly mentioned you should be able to transfer pump it mostly out into a jerry/bucket I hope. Our 2001 is located in front of the center cross member behind a steel shield.

Avo, apparently every time you start the car it switches fuel from the sub to main tank, unsure how much so didn’t want to take any risks.
I’ve got RACV totalcare so tow was free, first time I’ve used it in about 20 years, better safe than sorry.

Ok all done and easy fix. Found the transfer pump, disconnected the out hose (they are even marked in & out) and ran the pump. Drained the fuel into a container and refilled the reserve tank with diesel. Ran the pump again to drain into main tank, refilled again and drained into main tank.
Was then confident that if there was any petrol left in there is was well and truly diluted. Car started first kick and ran flawlessly on the drive home.
Thanks for the input and advice, great forum.
    Cheers
