4.2tdi questions
Gday guys! After six weeks wake I finally picked up the 4.2 today. Very happy with it. A bit different to driving the zd but nothing I can’t get used too!
Anyway first thing I noticed was the air filter housing. It doesn’t look standard at all, much smaller in fact. Fitting an airtec snorkel next week but wanted to get your thoughts on the filter housing and if I should try to find an aftermarket standard size one?
Second question, so the car has this fancy factory fitted screen with a reversing camera (may be handy for hooking up the trailer), anyway, it also has this contraption in the back. To me it looks like a six stacker CD player. Does it do anything else?

Air Filter box looks exactly the same as mine in my 2005 4.2tdi. Re the other "thing" check here, it is indeed a cd stacker

Yes that is a standard GUIV airbox. You can get a lid upgrade for it or change to an aftermarket box but they get expensive. If your are just sticking with then factory turbo for the time being then I'd not bother with the box. I am just about to swap to an aftermarket box and have a lid upgrade I'd be interested in selling if your keen. Send me a pm if and when your keen.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Hi, is there a difference in the air box on a 3 litre to the 4.2?

I just replied to this in another question here.
Pretty sure the boxes are the same just different lids.
Apples for apples I think the zd30 lid is better flow but the restrictiveness (if chasing bigger figures for an upgraded turbo) is the air filter design to suit the actual box not the lids but small gains can be made by the lids of course.

Cool cool thanks guys, all makes sense now. It just confused me a little when I looked at the one on my zd and compared it to the 4.2.
Does anyone use cd stackers any more? I generally only use my phone for music or listen to tapes some times (some slim dusty stuff you just can’t get on iTunes haha). Is it worth anything?

Yeah you don't seem to see many stackers around anymore seeing as music has headed to phones usb stick etc. Worth a try you never know someone might want one if you put it on gumtree eBay fb etc but yeah don't think there's a huge demand for them anymore. . .
