2.8L TD 2000 GU patrol crankshaft

Hi. I just bought my first ever GU patrol. i Just found a quote in the new beast which has been dubbed "Snotlag" lol (hence my user name lol) its from nudgee Automotive repairs. so i rang them and asked what had been done to the 4x4. The guy told me that the Key Way on the front crankshaft is warn out.. is this serious trouble or easy fix to a degree?

Hello, and welcome to the forum. Please head over to the intro section and tell us a bit about yourself and your patrol.

The key wearing out is a very common problem with the RD28, due to the knock at idle, or incorrect torque on the crankshaft bolt and not torquing the bolt periodically.

It needs to be fixed ASAP. Some have tried getting a professional to weld and machine the shaft, but that is only a temporary solution which may end up costing you way more.

Others say they have had no problems with the repair, but I recommend getting the whole crank and bottom end replaced. Whoever sold you the vehicle knew about the problem.

My advice is: not to follow my advice.
