08 zd30 crd oil light on
Hey people, got a manual 08 zd30 with 180k on it. Has egr block, 3 inch turbo back exhaust, catch can, dawes/needle set to 17psi and a k and n filter. Saturday i was about to head on a 400k drive when I noticed the oil light come on. Checked oil which is still full and a nice golden colour (I run penrite 20w50). Anyway I did the drive light stayed on the whole time. When car turned off when I start it again the oil light usually comes on within a minute, however a few times since it happened I have driven up to 50ks without it coming on once, have now done 600ks since i noticed it. Car is still full of oil and isn't making any funny noises, guessing it would just be a sensor issue but any opinions more than welcome, my thoughts are if it was low oil pressure it would have damaged it by now. Nearly due for an oil change but that shouldn't make a difference.

Legendary
Could be the sensor. Beg, borrow, steal or as a last resort buy a hand held pressure guage and check the oil pressure. if its good its the sensor, replace it and all ok. If you are losing pressure you will have to find out why.
2005 GU IV ST 3.0. Snorkel. Roof rack. Awning. Spots. Welded I/C. Dual batteries & VSR. UHF. Barn door hinge extension. Roof top spot lights. Rear drawers. 2" lift. NADS. EGT and boost gauges. Trans temp and water temp gauges. Provent 200 catch can. Rear ladder
And crawling on the planet's face, some insects called the human race. Lost in time. And lost in space... and meaning.

So slight update, after leaving the car sitting nearly 3 weeks due to work I managed to find time to go for a drive maybe 150ks with a few stop starts and the light didn't come on once. Gotta do a 500k drive next sunday then gona service it anyhow. If it comes on again I will take it in and get the oil pressure tested but it's running great and hoping I have been worrying over nothing or just a dodgy senaor

GUs have a touchy oil pressure switch , it happened to me .
All I did was turn the motor off wait a few seconds and start it again no problem.
If it does happen again first check you have oil then start it again , Ive had no problems since .
thats over 7 years ago now

i don't want to worry you unnecessarily Mark, but there were a few of the 07 - 08 CRD's where the oil pump bolts were missing the correct amount of loctite and the pumps come loose.
This might not be your problem, as the sensors can and do fail, but it is something to keep in mind

Yeah I have read that and this worries me. Light hasn't come on again after alot of stop start city driving. See how i go Sunday when I do the long drive. Would be shattered if it was the oil pump but would have thought if it was serious it would have gone by now.

Hi Mark
Is it due for an oil change?
Worth dropping oil and putting fresh clean oil in and new filters. Filters could be crappy and slightly restricting pressure?
In my in laws ve 2010 v8 ss Commodore we had a check engine light stating oil pressure sensor switch.
I bought a new one installed and it still did it.
In the end it was dirty oil!. Changed and all good 1 year later
Try imple things first

Hi Mark
Hopefully you have this sorted, my 2007 patrol had the oil pump come loose back in 2008 67000 km. The oil light didnt come on just a hell of a rattle. The bolts wind themselves out and into the gears. you will know if the oil pump is loose.good luck with it.

digging up an old thread, my wife reported an oil light coming on yesterday while dropping the kids to school. It has 202,000kms, fresh oil & filter, runs awesome. Am hoping it's just a sensor fault. Out of curiosity, where is the location of the oil pump?
