Way back in the day, the first CB antennas were constructed like this and they typically failed from constant knocking thru bush, the plastic shrink tubes got brittle from UV degradation and hardened, making it easy for the protective wrapping to crack. Water gets down into the base of the antenna itself and starts to corrode the wire connection. In time the wires that are corroded break or work loose from the contact with branches. If the vehicle doesn't get used in that sort of environment, I guess the antenna style is fine - I mean before ZCG came along and changed the construction to a total copper sheath without the individual wire 'ribs', this was the only option and more or less accepted. I don't doubt the performance of these antennas, just that ZCG have good runs on the board for me.

    Good choice mate...

IMHO the two best Antenna manuf in the world are ZCG Scalar and RFI.
Can't go wrong with either really, all purpose built for Oz and great tech support.

Can't explain it other than personal preference but I tend to opt for ZCG for base/fixed applications and RFI for mobile but if I can't find exactly what I want with one then I use the other.
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Yep, I have both ZCG and RFI antennas and happy with them all.
