    Td42 rebuild

    hey guys i have aquestion for you all which has confused a lot of people.
    so let me give you a bit of a rundown on what is happening. So the patrol currently has a zd30 hand grenade 4 speed auto in it. what i have gone out and bought is a TD42 NA diesel motor and 5 speed manual gearbox out of a 1988 gq wagon.
    Now the tough part. if i am rebuilding the motor as a turbo motor and i am replacing all the internal parts etc should i be buying parts for a TD42T or a TD42 NA. and with the gearbox i know they need a bit of persuasion and a but of work to get them to fit but thats ok. should i be buying a master cylinder for a gu or gq.
    Please shed all knowledge you may have as all will be greatly appreciated

    Hey mate I guess the first question is what kind of power and why are you chasing big figures to warrant rebuilding the motor?

    Or does the motor you are getting need a rebuild regardless?

    What year motor did you get too mate?

    the motor needs rebuilding regardless but i thought while im at it i thought i would turbo the motor
    mainly chasing big torque for towing heavy trailers for work and play
    88 the motor is

    First thing is what is actually wrong with the original motor? This could determine what else needs replacement and the cost of machining.

    Sky is the minit ay? Well then.

    Genuine pistons are a must. Izumi/Mahle brand
    Seeing as you have a silvertop, you'll have 28mm pins. You'll have to source some rods to suit turbo pistons
    There are stroker kits to 4.5L available from UFI , but I do not know if they are based on a turbo or NA crank, you'll have to find that out
    Engine balance is a must!
    New harmonic balancer is a must! I have heard that ufi have been working on a viscous damper. I dont know if they are comercially available
    Genuine liners. Some aftermarket liners have a step at the bottom of the liner. These are shit and WILL crack. I have seen that UFI have their own liners too.
    Look into multi angle valve grinds. You can ceramic coat the pre comb's, combustion chamber, exhaust valve and runner, pistons, exhaust manifold, turbine housing and dump pipe.
    Head studs.
    Either lighten the stock flywheel by a few kg's or get an aluminum one. (A Must do)
    Factory turbo oil pump is a must.
    Get your injectors rekitted, standard crack pressure will do.
    Injector pump. Ufi seem to do a nice one, they use a different style of Governor, which is something I have wanted for some time.
    Replace bolt on items like water pump, viscous hub etc
    Upgrade radiator.

    By the time you buy a turbo, intercooler, airbox, snorkle etc plus what has been mentioned about you wont get change from 25 grand, maybe 30 grand with labour and consumables if you are paying someone to do alot of it


    Edit. The "must do" things mentioned should be done regardless of what you end up going with.

    Your estimate is pretty spot on there Ben. My Build was not far off.
